Residential Housing for Women |
 |
In Sacramento, the YWCA carries on a century-old tradition of providing women a safe, comfortable place to live. As many as 32 low-income, single women call the YWCA on 17th Street, not far from the Capitol, home. Each has her room furnished with a twin bed, dresser, and lamp. All rooms have a closet, sink and ceiling fan. There are both communal and private baths, and a communal kitchen. A shared living room is a place to watch TV, play cards and chat. In good weather, residents enjoy the enclosed courtyard and garden. Laundry facilities are available on site. |
From its midtown location, the YWCA offers convenient access to public transit. Residents can walk to nearby drug and grocery stores. The YWCA also makes mental health counseling available to residents who qualify.
Women with an income under $22,900 are eligible to apply, and preference is given to women 55 and older. Utilities (water, garbage, gas and electricity) are included in the rent. Residents may have private phones in their rooms at their own expense. A pay phone is available on the second floor. |
