parenting classes
Being a parent is hard work and sometimes, a helping hand
can make a difference. We help parents have a positive
impact on their children’s development, self-esteem and
behavior. Classes address everything from bedwetting to
making sure a child’s homework gets done.
Classes are for 7 weeks and costs $10 per session. |

teaching parents and children
Good parents aren’t born, they are made from experience, from good role models and from the kind of parenting classes offered by the YWCA of Contra Costa County/Sacramento. Our classes, taught by an experienced, credentialed teacher, or MFT therapist, help parents and children connect with each other to create strong, respectful and loving families. Our teachers, who speak Spanish, pays particular attention to the parenting expectations shared by many Latino parents.
The classes, which are designed for both parents and children, cover topics like: |
 |
 |
- Building positive relationships.
- Child development from birth to age five.
- Building a child’s self-esteem.
- Behavior problems (aggression, bed wetting, tantrums, for example).
- School and homework issues.

The classes are two hours long and are held in the evening. After a snack, parents spend the first hour with the instructor, discussing the week’s topic. The children meet separately to practice the exercises and games they will spend the second hour doing together with their parents. This gives everyone time to practice what they have learned.
The seven-week series of classes is offered in the fall or spring and rotates among the YWCA’s facilities in Antioch, Bay Point, Concord, Oakley and Richmond. Parents receive a certificate at the end of the course and everyone is honored at a graduation ceremony.
Parenting classes are free for YWCA of Contra Costa County/Sacramento members.
The cost is $70 for non-members.
